Preparing for a Dental Visit
These are general recommendations. If your dentist or clinic staff gave you individual instructions, follow those instructions.
Before Your Visit
- Carry out your usual oral hygiene.
- Do not drink alcohol before your appointment.
- Do not stop or change prescribed medicines on your own.
- Tell your dentist about medicines you take regularly, allergies, chronic conditions, pregnancy or possible pregnancy where this may be relevant to treatment.
- Bring previous test results, images, and medical documents if they are relevant to your current visit.
Food and Medicines
Fasting is not normally required for a routine dental appointment unless you have been given different instructions. If a specific procedure requires special preparation, the dentist or clinic staff will tell you separately.
Before an Examination
A standard dental examination usually requires no special preparation. If an X-ray examination is planned and pregnancy is possible, make sure you tell the healthcare professional before the examination.
If You Become Ill Before the Visit
If you have a high temperature, marked symptoms of an acute infection, or a sudden deterioration in your condition, call the clinic in advance to ask whether the appointment should be rescheduled.
